Now I have been on many cruises in my life to many different places of the world, and I have made some mistakes when planning my cruise as I did not look over everything like I should have. Lots of people will just be focusing on the cruise itself when they are planning there vacation and they do not take into consideration lots of other points that need to be seen right, such as cruise destinations. Another thing that many people will overlook is where the cruise ship is departing from, and if you overlook this you could be spending a lot of money on a plane ticket just to get to where the cruise ship is leaving port.
SO in my opinion if you can select a cruise that is fairly close to you then I would do that. Another thing is not all cruise ships will return to the same port they leave from, this should be common sense to check both where they are departing from and where they are returning to.
Some of the options you could do to get to the location of where the ship is departing from is to ride a bus or a train, rent a car or if you are fortunate enough you could have a friend drop you off, if you are brave enough to leave your car in a garage or a parking lot for 5-18 days, or however long it is your cruise is then you could do that also.
Bottom line is that you have to get to where the cruise is leaving one way or another, and when it comes to the major cruise lines, many people just choose to fly to them because there are only so many ports that are around where major cruise lines, such as Carnival and Princess cruise ships will depart from.
However you choose to get there make sure that you put that into the total amount that you are going to be spending on your vacation. Many people overlook this small step of a cruise vacation but in the end it will come back and haunt them if they do not plan everything perfectly.
